Preliminary Applications for the 2024-25 Preschool Program to Be Accepted March 4-29
Preliminary applications to participate in Frederick County Public Schools 2024-25 Preschool Program will be accepted from March 4-29. The program will serve up to 72 selected four-year-olds residing in the Apple Pie Ridge, Evendale, Gainesboro, Indian Hollow, Jordan Springs, Middletown, Redbud Run and Stonewall elementary school attendance zones.

FCPS to Begin 2024-25 Kindergarten Registration
Frederick County Public Schools will begin kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year on March 1. All children who will be five years of age on or before September 30, 2024, must register for kindergarten. Families should contact the registrar at the school the child will attend to complete the registration process electronically or to make an appointment to complete the process at the school.

Alison Post Named Supervisor of Career and Technical Education
At the February 6 Frederick County School Board meeting and public hearing, Superintendent Dr. George Hummer introduced Alison Post as the FCPS Supervisor of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Post, who has served as the work-based learning coordinator for FCPS since July 2022, will take over from Mary Beth Echeverria, who is taking a position at Dowell J. Howard Center.

Stephanie Reed Named Principal of Redbud Run Elementary School
At the February 6 Frederick County School Board meeting and public hearing, Superintendent Dr. George Hummer introduced Stephanie Reed as the new principal of Redbud Run Elementary School. Reed, who has served as the assistant principal since 2016, will take over from Joseph Strong, who was named the FCPS Assistant Director of Student Support Services in October.

Superintendent Presents Proposed Budget for FY25
Frederick County Schools Superintendent Dr. George Hummer presented his proposed FY25 budget to the School Board during its meeting on January 24. The needs-based budget proposal includes initiatives to address the budget priorities adopted by the School Board in October 2023 and support the school division’s strategic plan “Inspire 2025: A Promise for Progress.”

2024 General Assembly
The General Assembly’s 2024 Regular Session convened on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 and is scheduled to last 60 days. Frederick County Public Schools has prepared a list of bills introduced this year that may impact Frederick County Public Schools.

FCPS School Board Holds Organizational Meeting
The County School Board of Frederick County, Virginia held a special-called organizational meeting on January 9, and took official action, including electing the chair, vice chair and making committee assignments.

FCPS Welcomes New Director of Facilities Services
Brian Davis began on December 18 as the director of facilities services for Frederick County Public Schools. Davis is replacing long-time director Tim Crisman, who will retire at the end of the month after holding the director of facilities position since 2011.

Three Sworn In as Frederick County School Board Members
Three newly-elected Frederick County School Board Members were sworn into office on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Milton F. Wright Board meeting room at the Frederick County Public Schools Administration Building in Winchester.

School Board Adopts 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 School Calendars
The School Board adopted the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school year calendars at their meeting on December 12. The calendars were developed with a focus on instruction and learning time for students and align with community and staff feedback.

For the 11th consecutive year, the Association of School Business Officials International has recognized Frederick County Public Schools with a Meritorious Budget Award.

FCPS families can now use the Edulog Parent Portal for real-time location and information for your student's bus transportation. Learn more about the app.

Free and Reduced Price Meals
Eligible families are encouraged to apply to participate in the free or reduced priced meals program for the 2023-24 school year. Thanks to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), free school meals will be available to all students at several schools this year.
